This fortress was named "La Fuerza Real de San Jose (The patrioness of the Archdiocese of Zambaonga City). It is a 17th century millitary defense fortress that was built by the spanish  colonial government.. it is used as defense from pirates and raiders of the sultan of mindanao and jolo. Today, it is a museum named "Fort Pillar". it symbolizes the city's cultural heritage and a popular landmark of Zamboanga City.
